![]() ![]() When taken in conjunction with the fact that Mayor Kline was personally responsible for the construction of Starcourt Mall – and that the new location will be the site of the season’s climactic battle against the forces of the Upside Down – his demise would well function symbolically. Larry Kline, in fact, may already be carrying much more evidence with him in the argument for his doomed nature: Netflix originally described his character as not only a “classic ‘80s politician,” but also an individual who is more concerned with his own electability than actual policy-making – or the welfare of Hawkins. Billy was straight menace with no possibility of rehabilitation, and he’s only subdued by the end of the second season finale “ The Gate” thanks to a combination of sedatives and extreme violence (the only language he truly knows how to speak). That left the teenage-villain door wide open, and the Duffers opted to fill it in the second season with none other than Billy Hargrove – a real bad seed, who’s way more physically intimidating than Steve ever could be. Then Joe Keery was cast, however, and his irrepressible charm made the executive producers rethink their approach to the part, recasting him instead as the ultimately redeemable antagonist who would go on to become one of the most lovable faces on the show. He'll be missed in Stranger Things 5.When Steve Harrington was first conceived of for the Stranger Things pilot, Matt and Ross Duffer envisioned him being the type of archetypal bully from Stephen King’s (‘80s) work, the human character who was, in many ways, even more vile and sadistic than whatever the supernatural threat was hanging in the background. And who can forget about his rocking guitar solo in the Upside Down? Extremely metal. Eddie was clearly this season's breakout character, with his love for Dungeons and Dragons and his sweet friendship with Dustin instantly endearing him to audiences. You knew right then and there that'd he'd do something heroic - and pay the price for it. The writing was on the wall for him as soon as he claimed he and Dustin weren't heroes. Good riddance to him.īut of course, the death that people will be saddest about (beyond Max's, which only lasted a minute) is Eddie's. He continues the proud Stranger Things tradition of characters whose names start with a 'B' dying every season: Barb, Bob, Billy, and now, Brenner. Brenner (Matthew Modine) also dies after trying to escape the Nina Project with Eleven. Jason gets disintegrated by the Upside Down portal. Unfortunately, we can't say the same of several other characters this season. There were a few moments when I thought he was for sure a goner, like that monologue about his dream family, but he makes it out of the Upside Down in one piece. Nope, King Steve (Joe Keery), mother of Hawkins, is still alive and kicking! Phew. Is there anything she can't do?īring him home. Until then, bringing people back to life seems like a pretty neat skill for Eleven to have in her back pocket. She's still in a coma, but given how Max was such a pivotal player this season, I'm sure we'll see her again soon. She brings Max to life, although not back to consciousness. Max fully dies for a minute after facing Vecna, allowing the fourth gate to open and destroy Hawkins. It's a pretty efficient way to join the California crew and the Hawkins party, although it unfortunately gives characters like Mike, Will, and Jonathan very little to do other than provide support.īut all of that is just scratching the tip of the iceberg, because now Eleven seems to have the power to bring people back from the dead. Her long-distance superpowers are a handy workaround to the fact that she and her friends are thousands of miles from Indiana. ![]() That last ability proves extremely useful in these final two episodes, as she's able to confront Vecna as he hunts Max (Sadie Sink) through her memories. The Nina Project did its job, and now Eleven is able to lift heavy objects, blow up helicopters, and enter people's minds.
